Questions
Should I crop my UK digital passport photo?
No. GOV.UK asks for a photo that shows your head, shoulders and upper body and crops it itself. The digital preset only fixes the file size and format, leaving the framing as it is.
My file comes out smaller than the minimum. What happens?
Where there is a minimum, the tool first saves at top quality and then adds padding data that image viewers ignore, so the picture is unchanged and the file meets the minimum.
How accurate are these requirements?
Taken from the official notice or government page listed below. Rules can change with each new notice, so compare with the official instructions linked on this page.
Is my photo uploaded to a server?
No. Everything runs in your browser, so your photo and signature never leave your device. That matters for ID documents.
