Checked 2026-11-03. Taken from the official notice or government page listed below. Göç İdaresi asks for a biometric colour photo to the ICAO standard, on a white background and taken within the last 6 months. Its Samsun office gives the size as 5 × 6 cm, and Turkish consulates give 50 × 60 mm for the biometric photo used for passports and ID cards. No Göç İdaresi page gives a pixel size or KB limit for the e-İkamet upload: 591 × 709 px is 50 × 60 mm at 300 DPI, and the 300 KB cap is the limit applicants report, not an official rule. The Hatay office once asked for a 220 × 290 px copy on CD for family permits. The number of prints is 2 or 4, depending on the permit type and the office. Always check the latest official instructions before submitting.

Turkey residence permit (e-İkamet) photo: what to upload

e-İkamet online upload: 591 × 709 px (50 × 60 mm at 300 DPI), No official limit (300 KB is safe), JPEG, White background. Biometric colour photo to the ICAO standard, taken within the last 6 months. e-İkamet checks the photo automatically when you upload it.

Printed biometric photos: 50 × 60 mm (5 × 6 cm), White background. Head about 32 to 36 mm from chin to crown. 2 or 4 prints, depending on the permit type.

    Other rules to know

Crop to 50 × 60 mm, not 35 × 45 mm. A photo cut to the Schengen and EU passport size has the wrong proportions, and e-İkamet can reject it with "Face / Photo Aspect Ratio Condition is not met".

Use the same photo for the online upload and for the prints you bring to the appointment.

Taken within the last 6 months, in colour. Göç İdaresi says it will not issue the permit if you upload a family photo, a selfie, an old or black and white photo, or one in which you are hard to recognise.

Plain white background, with no pattern and no shadows on the face or behind the head.

Glasses only if you need them to see, with your eyes clearly visible and no glare on the lenses; no sunglasses or tinted glasses.

Neutral expression, mouth closed, looking straight at the camera. A headscarf worn for religious reasons is allowed if the whole face is visible.

    Questions

What size is the ikamet photo?

50 × 60 mm, that is 5 × 6 cm, the same as a Turkish passport or ID card photo. As a file that is 591 × 709 pixels at 300 DPI, saved as a JPEG, with the head about 32 to 36 mm from chin to crown. Göç İdaresi publishes no pixel or KB limit for the e-İkamet upload, so the upload preset makes exactly 591 × 709 pixels and keeps the file under 300 KB, the limit applicants report. Sizes for other countries are in the passport and visa photo size table.

Why does e-İkamet reject my photo?

e-İkamet checks the photo when you upload it and names the rule it failed, for example "Background Color condition is not met" or "Face / Photo Aspect Ratio Condition is not met". The usual causes are a photo cropped to 35 × 45 mm instead of 50 × 60 mm, a background that is not white or has shadows, glare on glasses, a selfie taken at arm's length, and hair or a headscarf covering part of the face. Retake the photo against a white wall in even light, then use the upload preset.

How many photos do I need?

The e-İkamet list for long-term residence permits asks for 2 biometric photos. Göç İdaresi offices such as Samsun and Antalya ask for 4 for student, tourist and family permits. Bring the number on the document list for your permit type, all copies of the photo you uploaded. The print preset makes a 5 × 6 cm file at 300 DPI, and the print sheet under the result fits 4 copies on 4 × 6 in photo paper, or more on A4.

My file comes out smaller than the minimum. What happens?

Where there is a minimum, the tool first saves at top quality and then adds padding data that image viewers ignore, so the picture is unchanged and the file meets the minimum.

    How accurate are these requirements?

Taken from the official notice or government page listed below. Rules can change with each new notice, so compare with the official instructions linked on this page.

Is my photo uploaded to a server?

No. Everything runs in your browser, so your photo and signature stay on your device. Nothing is uploaded unless you choose to share a file by link. That matters for ID documents. If your device can't handle an image, the tool can shrink it on our server instead, but only if you agree, and it is deleted right away.
