    What this page does
E-DV entry photo600 × 600 px (square), Up to 240 KB, JPEG, Plain white or off-white background. 24-bit colour. One photo for the entrant and one for each spouse and child listed on the entry

Checked 2026-11-03. The official notice could not be read directly; values are those attributed to it by several sources that agree. Some photo sites say DV photos can be anywhere from 600 × 600 to 1200 × 1200 pixels, which is the DS-160 visa rule. The State Department and DV guides we found give 600 × 600, so the preset uses exactly that size. Always check the latest official instructions before submitting.

    How to use it

    1. Pick the preset for the file you are uploading.
    2. Drop the photo or scan. Use Crop on its row to frame the face or signature first.
    3. Check the size shown under the preview, then download and upload it.

    Other rules to know

Taken within the last 6 months.

    No eyeglasses.

Use a new photo each year: an entry that reuses the photo from an earlier year's entry can be disqualified.

Do not edit the background, skin or features; the State Department checks photos for alteration.

    Questions

Why does the E-DV form reject my photo?

The entry form checks the file as you upload it. The usual failures are a file over 240 KB, an image that is not exactly square, a PNG or HEIC file instead of JPEG, or a photo smaller than 600 × 600 pixels. The preset fixes all four. Glasses, a busy background or a tilted head are not caught at upload but can disqualify the entry later.

Do my spouse and children need photos too?

Yes. Every person you list on the entry needs their own photo that meets the same rules, including children who will not immigrate with you. A missing or invalid photo for any family member can disqualify the whole entry, so run each photo through the preset.

My file comes out smaller than the minimum. What happens?

Where there is a minimum, the tool first saves at top quality and then adds padding data that image viewers ignore, so the picture is unchanged and the file meets the minimum.

    How accurate are these requirements?

The official notice could not be read directly; values are those attributed to it by several sources that agree. Rules can change with each new notice, so compare with the official instructions linked on this page.

Is my photo uploaded to a server?

No. Everything runs in your browser, so your photo and signature stay on your device. Nothing is uploaded unless you choose to share a file by link. That matters for ID documents. If your device can't handle an image, the tool can shrink it on our server instead, but only if you agree, and it is deleted right away.
