Questions
Why was my Passport Online photo rejected?
The DFA says poor quality is the main reason. Beyond blur and dark lighting, its list includes selfies, scanned prints, glare or tint on glasses, smiling or an open mouth, a tilted head, shadows behind the head, hair over the eyes, a soother in a baby's photo, and photos older than 6 months.
Should I crop my photo to 35 × 45 mm before uploading?
No. The online photo should show you from head to mid torso with space around you, so a tight passport crop is wrong here. Use the first preset, which keeps your framing and only makes sure the file is a high-quality JPEG under 9 MB. It does not enlarge the photo, so start from one that is at least 715 pixels wide and 951 pixels tall.
My file comes out smaller than the minimum. What happens?
Where there is a minimum, the tool first saves at top quality and then adds padding data that image viewers ignore, so the picture is unchanged and the file meets the minimum.
How accurate are these requirements?
Taken from the official notice or government page listed below. Rules can change with each new notice, so compare with the official instructions linked on this page.
Is my photo uploaded to a server?
No. Everything runs in your browser, so your photo and signature stay on your device. Nothing is uploaded unless you choose to share a file by link. That matters for ID documents. If your device can't handle an image, the tool can shrink it on our server instead, but only if you agree, and it is deleted right away.
