Questions
How can a passport photo be only 20 KB?
At 300 × 360 pixels a JPG face photo fits in 20 KB with acceptable quality. The preset crops to that size and lowers the quality until the file is under 20 KB. Starting from a sharp, well-lit photo on a white background gives the best result.
No pixel size is given. Why 300 × 360?
The notice sets only the 20 KB limit, the JPEG format and the white background. 300 × 360 keeps the passport-photo shape while leaving enough room under 20 KB for a clear face. You can change it in Settings.
My file comes out smaller than the minimum. What happens?
Where there is a minimum, the tool first saves at top quality and then adds padding data that image viewers ignore, so the picture is unchanged and the file meets the minimum.
How accurate are these requirements?
Taken from the official notice or government page listed below. Rules can change with each new notice, so compare with the official instructions linked on this page.
Is my photo uploaded to a server?
No. Everything runs in your browser, so your photo and signature stay on your device. Nothing is uploaded unless you choose to share a file by link. That matters for ID documents. If your device can't handle an image, the tool can shrink it on our server instead, but only if you agree, and it is deleted right away.
