    Other rules to know

The uploaded photo must be identical to the printed photo on the application form, and taken in the last 6 months.

The uploaded signature must match the signature on the printed form and in your passport.

Parents may not sign in the child's signature box.

    Questions

Why does the OCI portal reject a white background?

The specification asks for a plain light-coloured background that is not white, unlike most passport photos. A photo on pure white can be returned. Retake it against a light grey or cream wall; the resizer cannot change the background colour.

What are the usual OCI upload errors?

A photo that is not square, a signature that is not three times wider than tall, files over 500 KB, PNG or HEIC files, and signatures scanned on lined or grey paper. The signature preset pads the scan to 3:1 without cutting it off and turns the paper pure white.

My file comes out smaller than the minimum. What happens?

Where there is a minimum, the tool first saves at top quality and then adds padding data that image viewers ignore, so the picture is unchanged and the file meets the minimum.

    How accurate are these requirements?

Taken from the official notice or government page listed below. Rules can change with each new notice, so compare with the official instructions linked on this page.

Is my photo uploaded to a server?

No. Everything runs in your browser, so your photo and signature stay on your device. Nothing is uploaded unless you choose to share a file by link. That matters for ID documents. If your device can't handle an image, the tool can shrink it on our server instead, but only if you agree, and it is deleted right away.
